The exhibition describes the path the artist has taken since the beginning of this decade. Photograms, performative set-ups, single and multi-channel video installations investigate light and images variedly and poetically. She explores the appearing of the image with its measure of unpredictability, suspended materiality, narrative potential and motion.

Among the masters of Venetian painting in the 15th—16th century, Cima developed a refined style and reached success thanks to his technical perfection, his meticulous drawing and mastery of oil painting, as well as the intensity of his palette. Exceptional works, some shown outside Italy for the first time, reveal the talent of this poetic painter.

“ What interests me is the idea of creating a bedside image, a manipulation one gives himself, perhaps for reassurance. The image created, the form delivered to the world becomes a talisman, with a protective and (in)fallible aura.(…) All these artists put their hand on their medium to overflow and create their own landscape, like a grip on reality.”

Fischer produces objects on the brink of falling apart or undergoing transformation, which results in sculptures in a bewildering variety of materials, including unstable substances such as melting wax and rotting vegetables. Compacting the real with the mimetic, he dares formal adventures in space, scale, and material with a mordant sense of humor.

The “Room, Freedom” project investigates private and intimate space as both a site of cultural, political and social practice and a displacement territory for the reception of artistic and theoretical forms. The seminars will attempt to approach private space otherwise, as a truly critical counter-site, like the “localised utopias” that Foucault discussed.

Shibata Zeshin’s career bridged two great periods in the history of Japan: the Japan of the Samurais and the Japan of Modernity. His extremely concise paintings and lacquerware played an important role in the development of tastes in the West.

The exhibition “1 + 1 = 0” originates from a hybrid work whose nature is described by a paradoxical equivalence. This ambiguous object — realised in unlimited edition since 2009 — gradually reveals itself as a knot of meanings, which activates a critical analysis of the European currency and of the economical framework from which it emerges.

John Baldessari plays with the art historical canon, conflating two iconic works by the likes of De Kooning, Manet, Duchamp and Picabia into collaged hybrids. Each work is a one-man “cadavre exquis”, accompanied at the bottom by a text indicating only one of the sources, leaving it to our imagination to divine the other source and decode the proposition.
