Of the early 20th century composers, Claude Debussy (1862-1918) was without doubt the one who found his greatest inspiration in the visual arts and the poetry of his time. “I love pictures almost as much as I love music” he wrote in 1911. The exhibition aims to evoke the composer’s main encounters with his contemporary performers, painters and poets.

Shila Khatami is a virtuoso. She can‘t be contained. Over the last years she has intuitively and emphatically developed a wide-ranging and eclectic arsenal of painterly means, that seeks inspiration not only from classic modernist painters but also in the observation of the design of everyday life and the aesthetics of punk or street graffitis.

Yves Eric 2boy presents us with the token of a rigorous universe. Still, the painter’s excitement remains contained; like the visual energy as the image achieves it’s density. It might be this coherence that invites us to participate, and to believe in the possibility of other worlds.

Michaële-Andréa Schatt appropriates a new support for herself, tracing paper- and is impregnated with places (ponds, springs) through a game of transparences, superpositions, verticality, reflects. This support allows her to play the transparence, fluidity, in this way unveiling a horizontal “Rorschach” in the landscape’s fold.

The present exhibition includes some seventy works that illustrate the recent focus of the museum on contemporary drawings, with the accent on work with a surrealistic mentality. All these drawings are rooted in some form of automatic imagination. They feature an almost outsider-like concentration, and strive to create their own world view.
