Bétonsalon has invited artist Maryam Jafri to develop a four month experimental exhibition and public program in Paris. “The Day After” takes root in Maryam Jafri’s ongoing project “Independence Day 1934-1975”, an installation composed of photographs taken on the first day of independence in former European colonies across Asia and Africa.

Arranging salvaged fragments and elements, Oberthaler toys with the very notion of diversion, both in the sense of manipulation and in the sense of diversion as displacement without purpose, without reason. The way Nick Oberthaler carves out elements and forms is an invitation to decode and to recognize past artistic achievements.

Claire Adelfang’s photographs frequently treat architecture as being moulded by human activity in spite of the paradoxical human absence. The Queen’s Hamlet at Versailles is the centrepiece of this new exhibition, for which, with her profoundly calm vision, the photographer has captured the spirit of the historic place.

Stephan Balleux is the child of a century in which the act of collecting images constituted the initial creative act. In that sense, though a painter, he inherited the doubt surrounding painting instilled by Marcel Duchamp and prolonged by the serial manifestos of Pop art and conceptual art.

For Hom Nguyen, art and sound expression are in perpetual movement like the image of boxing gestures, lively and violent. The regularity of the marks echoes the liveliness of the wild gestures of ink and creation. These are as much the movements which populate the portraits as the panting and combat of victory in the ring.

Little Joe’s angelic face is the pivot of Paul Morrissey’s film trilogy, three journeys in the wild. Through long duration shot sequences — role plays with improvised dialogue — deriving from irreplaceable documents concerning the US, Paul Morrissey unveils the daily life of a microcosm between glitz and grime, a product of Warhol’s The Factory.

Jérôme Poggi presents the second exhibition of Bertrand Lamarche. The show gathers a series of new works, including a group of photographs produced with the support of Le Fresnoy, and video-installations. Questioning sounds and its transcriptions, those works are in the continuity of previous works articulating architecture, phantasmagoria, and auto fiction.

Farida Le Suavé shapes, handles, builds and bakes her earthen works — sandstone in this case — as if she was extracting them from shapeless magma, in the tradition of a Medardo Rosso yet with a paradoxical result that is less demonstrative: an object with a finite surface, of an irresistible visual tactility.

American artist Emily Mast works on the cusp between the visual and the performing arts, displacing viewer expectations by tweaking the presentation codes of theatre and dance. Her performances and ephemeral installations combine the body, movement, sound and quirky personal experience in turning uncertainty into an art material at once sculptural and alive.

A Sunday in summer. On the occasion of the burial of his mother, the officer Arnošt reflects on his life and realises that there is a great emptiness and vanity to his existences. One of the gems of the Czech new wave, it was censored immediately after its making and received the special jury prize and San Remo festival in 1989.

With this show, the Fondation d’Entreprise Ricard is offering a contemporary look at the Portuguese art scene. The exhibition’s title comes from a conversation with a duo of Portuguese artists about the video installation “Efeito Orla”, whose premise was to set out in search of testimony about the last appearances of the lynx in the Malcata mountain in Portugal.
