(Un)governed Spaces in Afghanistan

Galerie Derouillon
Agenda  /  Exposition In this exhibition composed of oil paintings, installation, and handmade books, the artist Gregory Thielker collaborated with anthropologist, Noah Coburn, to create a complex portrait of Afghanistan today. They toured the region without bodyguards or military oversight, and were able to get intimate access to locations and local people surrounding the base. This exhibit is a powerful contrast to the predictable narratives of Afghanistan because it combines anthropology and art to create a layered and open-ended presentation of life amid conflict.

Christophe Gaillard Gallery

Claude Tétot - Jean Fournier Gallery

Claude Tétot — Peintures récentes

Tétot’s work is basically about chromatic exploration. As the actual material of his paintings, these elating colours fuel compositional confrontation and equilibrium. The idea of confrontation is at the core of his approach: confrontation of colours, planes, forms and treatments.

Jean Fournier Gallery

Suling Wang - Inception Gallery

Suling Wang

“If there is one central idea in all my paintings it is the idea of a reality, which is continually in a state of flux or dissolution, fragmenting and then becoming whole, before falling apart again” — Suling Wang.

Inception Gallery

Bernard Lallemand

Franck Eon - Cortex Athletico Gallery

Franck Eon — Skeletons and Illusions

Beatrice Caracciolo - Almine Rech Gallery

Beatrice Caracciolo — Attraversare il Fuoco

The Almine Rech Gallery announce its second solo exhibition of Beatrice Caracciolo in Paris. Working from photographs that she transforms through a process in several stages, Beatrice Caracciolo has created engravings, photoengravings and collages in black and white on the theme of Fire. This series is the third step in her work devoted to the four elements.

Almine Rech Gallery

Eduardo Terrazas - Almine Rech Gallery

Eduardo Terrazas — Constellations

One of the main focal points of Terrazas’ artistic career has been the appropriation of elements belonging to the Mexican craft tradition and national folk art culture and establishing a constant dialogue between them and different trends in contemporary art. Through this dialogue the artist opened up a permanent process of renovation and evolution of both traditions.

Almine Rech Gallery

La vie matérielle - Fondation d’entreprise Pernod Ricard

La vie matérielle — 15e Prix Fondation d’entreprise Ricard

_La Vie matérielle_ originated in the desire to design a more physical, more literal and in a sense more abstract exhibition than what I had had the opportunity to produce lately : a project founded on almost elemental gestures, tending towards a degree zero, a limited and committed language. The exhibition is a kind of living mechanism.

Fondation d’entreprise Pernod Ricard

Paz Corona - Les filles du calvaire Gallery

Paz Corona — Ulysse, c’est moi

“With this exhibition I am looking to portray a lady’s nocturnal thoughts. What interests me is the narrative situation: a man describing a woman’s internal state. Between man and woman there is an inability to communicate, an ever failed union, in the same way that a painting is always a failed encounter…” — Paz C…

Les filles du calvaire Gallery

Karine Rougier - Baraudou Schriqui Galerie

Karine Rougier — La rythmique des manœuvres

Karine Rougier presents a hitherto unseen installation of oil paintings. Known mainly up to now for her drawing skills, the artist transposes her universe inhabited by strange characters, animals, masks and chimeras all the while considering the plastic properties provided by this new medium.

Baraudou Schriqui Galerie

Katinka Lampe - Les filles du calvaire Gallery

Katinka Lampe — Wannabe

Xiao Fan - RX Gallery

Xiao Fan — Limited — Unlimited

Gayle Chong Kwan - Alberta Pane Gallery

Gayle Chong Kwan — Blind Vistas

Gayle Chong Kwan creates photographs that remind us of inversed mirrors; as if to project a vision instead of receiving its reflection. These gold mirrors are based on images from the works of Méliès, particularly his Voyage dans la Lune, to whom the artist renders homage.

Alberta Pane Gallery

Jitish Kallat - Templon Gallery

Jitish Kallat — The Hour of the Day of the Month of the Season

Jitish Kallat’s works emerge out of varied autobiographical, art-historical and political references. The artist takes an ironic and poetic look at the altered relationship between nature and culture, the strangeness that lies at the heart of everyday life, the enduring presence of the spiritual at the heart of material deterioration.

Templon Gallery

Rosson Crow - Nathalie Obadia Gallery

Rosson Crow — Reconstruction

Rosson Crow has embarked on painting the complex history of the southern United States, where she hails from. With its Protestant evangelical traditions, its colonial past, the ancient institution of slavery, and its separatism during the Civil War, the American South has a highly collective identity that Rosson Crow assimilates into her painting.

Nathalie Obadia Gallery

Claire Tabouret - Isabelle Gounod Gallery

Claire Tabouret — Prosôpon

Claire Tabouret works from photographs, both from her personal archives as well as anonymous photos collected during the course of her research. She makes use of faces which have been fixed in an indefinable space-time, in order to advance new interpretations of their presence and appearance.

Isabelle Gounod Gallery

Carlo Guaita - Bernard Bouche Gallery

Carlo Guaita — Universo Appeso

Bernard Bouche Gallery

Tatjana Doll - Jean Brolly Gallery

Tatjana Doll — Raster Image Processing

Jean Brolly Gallery

Philippe Decrauzat - Praz-Delavallade Gallery

Philippe Decrauzat — Folding

For his fourth exhibition at Praz-Delavallade, Philippe Decrauzat has taken over the gallery organising its space so that a wall sculpture confronts a series of paintings, like two separate signals broadcast simultaneously.

Praz-Delavallade Gallery

Eric Baudart - Valentin Gallery

Eric Baudart — More

Valentin Gallery

Robert Polidori - Karsten Greve Gallery

Robert Polidori — La Mémoire des Murs

Profoundly attached to traditional print photography, Robert Polidori seeks secret and hidden places that are normally off-limits to exterior regards and which are undoubtedly invisible to fleeting glances. By producing images with a temporal connotation, the artist directs those fleeting looks that are at times too rapid and blind to details.

Karsten Greve Gallery

Marc Desgrandchamps - Zürcher Gallery

Marc Desgrandchamps — Sans titre (1987-2013)

Hors limites - Centre d'Art Contemporain Chanot CACC

Hors limites — Exposition collective

Playing with boundaries and limits, stretching them, bypassing them and approaching them is one of the motifs that one finds in contemporary artistic practice, whether these borders be symbolic, artistic, or physical. The artists brought together for the exhibition strive to transgress, go beyond and to test possible …

Centre d'Art Contemporain Chanot CACC

Anne Brégeaut - Semiose Gallery

Anne Brégeaut — La menace de l’ananas

(French only) Peintures ou sculptures ?

Semiose Gallery

Christophe Lemaitre & Aurélien Mole - Florence Loewy

Christophe Lemaitre & Aurélien Mole — Ronde sable

Ronde sable is not a dual exhibition but from individual works develops a web of relationships between images and objects. Whether it’s undoing the folding of one, or sanding the frame’s paint of another, the gestures and works realised by Aurélien Mole and Christophe Lemaitre prolong, correct and empirically confuse their sources.

Florence Loewy

Audrey Nervi - Eva Hober Gallery

Audrey Nervi — Dead or Alive

Audrey Nervi continues her pictorial dialogue with today’s world. It is a world that she observes attentively from its outskirts, from its countries in debt, degraded by the authorities of international finance, a world that is being bankrupt, but she also observes from zones of temporary occupation where alternative worlds are being thought out and invented.

Eva Hober Gallery

Ernesto Ballesteros - Bendana | Pinel Art Contemporain Gallery

Ernesto Ballesteros — Cinco Dibujos

Bendana | Pinel Art Contemporain Gallery

La Ligne Fictive - Dohyang Lee Gallery

La Ligne Fictive

The work of Hayoun Kwon revolves mostly around the notions of memory (wether individual or collective), boundaries and limits, questionning the blurred lines between intention and interpretation, construction and fiction, recollection and invention. She examines the ambivalent relationships between reality and fiction, theatre and real life.

Dohyang Lee Gallery

Farah Atassi - Xippas Gallery

Farah Atassi

For her second solo exhibition at the Xippas Gallery, Farah Atassi displays a group of never before seen canvases that she produced in New York while at the ISCP residency. In these works, she confronts modernism with a rival aesthetic: German Expressionism and folkloric ornament.

Xippas Gallery

Jonathan Chauveau & Florian Viel - Patricia Dorfmann Gallery

Jonathan Chauveau & Florian Viel — Eight days in L.A.

Patricia Dorfmann Gallery

Lee Bul - Thaddaeus Ropac Marais Gallery

Lee Bul — Pure Invisible Sun

In addition to the freedom of form and a certain visionary aesthetic, Lee Bul’s wall sculptures give substance to a metaphorical vision of urban landscapes. The visual complexity of her metallic “interlacings” seems to evoke the growing intensification of material and immaterial networks.

Thaddaeus Ropac Marais Gallery

Marcin Maciejowski - Thaddaeus Ropac Marais Gallery

Marcin Maciejowski — Fine Gesture

Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac Paris is holding an exhibition by Polish artist Marcin Maciejowski. In a virtuoso act of simplification and reduction typical of his work, Maciejowski combines the blatancy of a comic strip with soft, sporadically pastose, meticulous brushwork resembling the style of the old masters.

Thaddaeus Ropac Marais Gallery

Gilles Balmet - Dominique Fiat Gallery

Gilles Balmet — Looking Through the Window

New works on paper from Gilles Blamet will be exhibited, linking aesthetic researches about images, landscape and abstraction, using ink wash or paint manipulated in baths with specific protocols.

Dominique Fiat Gallery

Julien Beneyton - Olivier Robert Gallery

Julien Beneyton — A toute épreuve

In his new exhibition “A toute épreuve”, Julien Beneyton proposes four group portraits with different contents and ambitions, forming together a remarkably unified ensemble. All the scenes take place outside, not in full nature, but with the city and its concrete monuments of urbanization as a setting.

Olivier Robert Gallery

Mutrel - Nery Marino Gallery

Nery Marino Gallery

Justin Morin - Jeanrochdard Gallery

Justin Morin — Poison

Justin Morin’s work lies at the borders of two different worlds. On the one hand is the world of art into which he frequently dips for inspiration, in particular looking back at the art of the Sixties. On the other hand lies the world of fashion, fashion as an industry, which deals with the design and production, in other words marketing them.

Jeanrochdard Gallery

Dorothy Iannone - CNEAI = Centre National Édition Art Image

Dorothy Iannone — Imperturbable

Delphine Gigoux-Martin - Metropolis Gallery

Metropolis Gallery

Display @ - Hussenot Gallery

Display @

Display is a group show that brings together different artists who have taken the furniture as a way of artistic expression. Their work shares a high perception of the interconnection between the environment and the body; a space of suggestion for art of living and forms.

Hussenot Gallery

After - Galerie Mitterrand

After

Whilst a number of exhibitions may have already analyzed the return of a modernist style through the work of contemporary artists, their intention was more focused on the nostalgia of a passed era where it was thought art could change life or the criticism of the excess’ of functionalism. The exhibition After attempts to escape these two trends.

Galerie Mitterrand

Artist in Society - Rabouan Moussion Gallery

Artist in Society

Rabouan Moussion Gallery

Sarah Tritz - Anne Barrault Gallery

Anne Barrault Gallery

Vera Molnar - Torri

Vera Molnar — True Story

The exhibition presents old drawings in dialogue with a selection of recent paintings. True Story is the tale of an artistic trajectory — Vera Molnar’s from the 1950’s to the present day — but also TORRI’s, who inaugurated it’s program in September 2010 with a solo show by the same artist.

Torri

Claude Closky - Laurent Godin Gallery

Claude Closky — Diplopie

Gathering original works made in 2012 and 2013, Diplopie is about confrontations, appearances and surprises. In an ever humorous manner, the artist blurs the line between two representational registers, one arbitrary and the other determined.

Laurent Godin Gallery

Découvertes et nouvelles acquisitions — Rentrée hors-les-normes 2013
