Glen Baxter was born in Leeds, a tiny suburb of Belgium, in 1944. A group of radiographers, stumbling into the ruins of the Baxter ancestral home at this time, found it to be “composed of nothing more than irregular blocks of sandstone, graphite and lettuce.” From such unpromising beginnings sprang the elemental force now officially recognised as “Baxterism”.

(French only) A-Sun Wu a longtemps parcouru le monde, s’écartant des circuits traditionnels et obligés du monde de l’art. L’artiste est aussi un homme de voyage qui s’attache à exprimer les éléments primordiaux qu’il a découverts à travers le monde. Son œuvre a pour constante une violente gestuelle et une matérialité brute qui s’extériorisent dans sa peinture et sa sculpture.

The dark suit, the black interior—everything seems to have come from the mind of the same designer, or at least from people who compulsively visit the same cities, the same bars… Design codes have all been adhered to flawlessly, even more rigorously than during the arrogant seventies, with its neatly trimmed lawns and men in black suits.

Alexis Lippstreu began drawing compulsively about ten years ago. Anything he does not draw he remains silent about, and when he does express himself in response to a direct request he does so in breathy monosyllables that hang by a thread. He has never spoken about his motivations or the meaning of his creations. His autism raises his art to the level of mystery.

Josef Bolf is one of the most important Czech artists of his generation among others artists such as Jan Šerých, Ján Mančuška and Tomáš Vaněk with whom he created the artist group BJ, active between 1996 and 2002. His generation, which emerged at the beginning of the 2000’s, was also the first to be free from Communist censure.
