Arnaud Mercier, retrospective

Since Gallery
Slash  /  Exposition This exhibition pays a tribute to the work of Arnaud Mercier (10 May 1962 — 26 September 2011), the creator of Slash and considered as one of the most important and prolific interactive designers. By showing his work in its rawest state, we examine the blurred lines between graphic design and web design, asking the viewer to explore their intersections, deviations and mutations.

“In the middle of nowhere” is a paradoxical expression with a wide range of connotations (from irony to poetry, from disenchantment to contemplation), it is used to refer to an object or a place from a relatively unplaceable space. It indicates a remote thing or location that is out of the ordinary or that juts out unexpectedly from the flat immensity plane.

John Gossage - LWS Gallery

John Gossage — The Thirty-Two Inch Ruler / Map of Babylon

In “The Thirty-Two Inch Ruler”, the narrative, whilst not autobiographical, is about a neighborhood in which John Gossage lives; one that is singular in the United States. At the same time provincial and international, it is a neighborhood populated by ambassadorial residences and the lavish private homes of those who are in positions of power in Washington.

Cycle Daido Moriyama - Polka Galerie

Cycle Daido Moriyama — Part. II : Paris

Form 1988 to 1990, Daido Moriyama lived in Paris first on rue Mouffetard, then on rue du Cherche-midi. In 1999, photographs from his stay were published, almost confidentially, in the “Visions of Japan” collection curated by Japanese editor Korinsha. Polka Galerie is proud to present a selection of thirty prints from this series never exhibited before.

Cycle Daido Moriyama — Part. III : Sérigraphies

In 1967, Andy Warhol’s silkscreens were exhibited for the first time in Japan. 29-year-old Daido Moriyama showed an immediate interest for this artisanal technique, which he saw as an obvious extension of photography.

Yue Minjun - Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain

Yue Minjun — L’ombre du fou rire

The Fondation Cartier presents the first European exhibition dedicated to Yue Minjun. The artist directs the same howl of laughter at the face of the world that reflects whatever one wants to see in it: a caricature of the homogenization of Chinese Society, a way of “grinning and bearing it” in a world that has become absurd or a form of self-derision.

Art by Telephone…Recalled - CNEAI = Centre National Édition Art Image

Art by Telephone…Recalled — Scénario d’Hiver

(French only) Art By Telephone…

The Florence Loewy gallery is presenting a collection of photographs and books from Erik van der Weijde’s diverse body of work. Van der Weijde carefully circumscribes the photographed object, but the non-emphatic nature of the object’s description suggests that we not linger too long on its presence.

L’Heure mystérieuse — Marion Tampon-Lajarriette

A mysterious community walks in large and obscure rooms, groping in search of a vision with some of their flashlights. The place, which is a museum, is rediscovered on its hidden face as a place of fear, the invisible and the unknown. For her exhibition at Galerie Dix9, Marion Tampon-Lajarriette presents her latest video and photographic creations.

Primavera

Tudo perto nesse mundo longe - Bendana | Pinel Art Contemporain Gallery

Tudo perto nesse mundo longe

The concept of time and distance merge in the global world we live in. Places that are far away on a map, can suddenly feel nearby. Technology transports us instantly anywhere on the planet. The far, thanks to modern ways of travel, can become near if you really want to be there. Means of communication across the globe has become — literally — free.

Bevis Martin & Charlie Youle - Samy Abraham Gallery

Bevis Martin & Charlie Youle — Who am I?

Matthieu Ronsse - Almine Rech Gallery

Matthieu Ronsse — Cheap Imitations

What first strikes the viewer about Matthieu Ronsse’s work is his remarkable mastery of the paintbrush and his almost casual method of selecting his materials and his artworks. Indeed, Ronsse’s technique is reminiscent of those Masters of classical painting however he doesn’t confine himself to classical materials and seeks to surpass any material limits.

Ziad Antar - Almine Rech Gallery

Ziad Antar — Expired

In 2000, Ziad Antar began using black and white rolls of film that had expired in 1976 in the legendary Scheherazade studio of photographer Hashem El Madani. The camera he uses for the series “Expired” is itself old. The subject however, is of the utmost contemporaneity: buildings synonymous with modernity, such as the Queensboro Bridge in New York.

Friends, Countrymen

When youre down and troubled. And you need a helping hand. And nothing, nothing is going right. Hey, aint it good to know that youve got a friend? People can be so cold. Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call.

Martine Damas - Bernard Jordan Gallery

Martine Damas — Peintures
